We need a brand-new child care system that motivates ladies to work, not punishes them for it

In previous recessions in Australia, much bigger varieties of guys compared to ladies shed their jobs. This reflected truths during that time. Guys had greater degrees of labor force involvement compared to ladies, and the building and manufacturing markets were especially hard hit.

But in 2020, the structure of the labor force has changed. While much from also, today, women's involvement in the economic climate rests at 61% compared with 71% for guys.

There will be A$708 million in financing for solutions to change JobKeeper from July 13 until September 27. This money will be used to pay child care solutions 25% of the charge income they received before COVID-19 saw moms and dads drawing children from participation.

Completion of this package is a dual hit to ladies. It strikes a market mainly staffed by ladies, and eliminates free child-care when ladies are battling with enhanced caring obligations and job losses.

This is deeply worrying from the point of view of sex equity. But if that's not factor enough, the business economics of the choice should give pause for thought
